The lack of resources such as food were causing a strain on the population. With the collapse of their supplies from the United States and the USSR, the Lunar residents were facing difficulties. 10 years after the war, resources were abundant and the population was at 150 people. The group came up with a name for themselves if they were to ever interact with Earthlings again, The Outsiders. When the nukes were dropping on Earth, the colonists watched as mushroom clouds sprouted from the ground. This wasn’t supposed to be this long, I swear. When the tensions for the Great War began, the United States cooperated with Russia to establish a lunar base to be used for a military advantage against China, this was known as "The Lunar Project".The lunar base was a huge achievement for settling land outside of Earth and encouraged the space programs of Earth to continue funding it.Ģ5 years after its establishment, nearly one-hundred people were living on the moon, their own greenhouses established and work even began on artificial gravity. Like, I love him and feel the need to defend him. Also, it was common back then.Įven if say Pony hadn’t run off the Socs would have eventually rode by the vacant lot and find Johnny and mess with him or worse. He was worried and was late by two hours where they live in a rough neighborhood and that Socs were going out late at night. Maybe it’s because I slapped in the face and my bottom was tanned if/when I was out of line but I don’t blame Darry for slapping Pony. Darry, out of the three, was the logical one and most likely would’ve sussed her out. That is a huge deal especially if the state had already caught wind of what happened. And say if they had and Darry didn’t know and Soda ended up saying he did that wouldn’t be good for them.Īnd the only reason I think Soda didn’t tell Darry about wanting to marry Sandy first was due to knowing Darry would have told him to wait and make sure. Like, and I’ve told people this, the fact that Soda never told Darry that he knew Dally knew where the boys were. It bothered me whenever Soda or Pony kept something from him. He barely has time to do anything fun or date. He could have worked one or two jobs to save up to go to college, but instead he made sure he got custody over Soda and Pony.

the outsiders darry curtis ponyboy curtis sodapop curtis dallas winston johnny cade two-bit mathews steve randle cherry valance tim shepard the outsiders tv show s.e. Last thing- the Nothing Gold Can Stay/Stay Gold concept in the book is something I can really relate to. I just love characters that seem cold but are really caring and actually a teddy bear inside! (Note that my favorite character from Kung Fu Panda is Master Shifu.) But Darry really cares a lot and when he accidentally hit his brother, he just got so worried, scared, and tired of Soda always sticking up for Pony.

Of course he’s not perfect and he toughens up on Ponyboy a little too much and ends up seeming cold to the point that Pony doesn’t think Darry cares about him. He’s just a young guy and he’s taken a lot of pressure and responsibility upon himself.

He’s just trying his best to be a good guardian to his brothers.

I really like some fanmade YouTube videos with clips set to music that relates to the story/characters too.īesides, it’s a really enjoyable story (chocked full of feels) with great characters (plus greasers and 50′s/ 60′s stuff is so cool!) and I love stories that have brotherly love and a group of friends that are like family to each other.Īnd then there’s my favorite character ever: Darry Curtis! I really like everything about him and I never thought he was “mean”. Then there’s the TV show, which is like being able to watch fanfiction. Also, this website where I can see what other fans have to say (even though sometimes people post stuff I severely disagree with). One reason it’s still my favorite is because of all the good fanfictions I’ve read.

(My last record was almost 2 years with Kung Fu Panda.) I’ve joined more fandoms since I read The Outsiders for the first time, but none of them have beat out my favorite book.

Like, “yeah, it was really good, but how are you still so into it?” After all, I’ve never had the same main fandom for as long before. I get asked every once in a while how on earth I am still in this fandom and why I love The Outsiders so much.
